Domain Whois & RDAP Lookup

This tool queries domain registration data using the RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) β€” the modern, structured JSON-based replacement for the legacy plain-text Whois protocol. RDAP is now the standard for all gTLDs and most ccTLDs.

Information Available via Whois / RDAP

  • Registrar β€” The accredited registrar through which the domain was registered (e.g. Namecheap, GoDaddy, Cloudflare Registrar).
  • Registration Date β€” When the domain was first registered.
  • Expiry Date β€” When the domain registration expires. Domains not renewed by this date enter a grace period before being released.
  • Last Updated β€” The most recent modification date in the registry.
  • Domain Status β€” Flags such as clientTransferProhibited, serverDeleteProhibited, etc.
  • Nameservers β€” The authoritative DNS servers for the domain.

GDPR & Registrant Privacy

Since 2018, GDPR regulations have caused most registrars to redact personal registrant contact information (name, email, phone, address) from public Whois and RDAP responses. Registrant details are typically only available to law enforcement or through formal legal processes.

Whois vs RDAP

RDAP returns structured, machine-readable JSON data and supports authentication for accessing non-public records. Legacy Whois returns unstructured plain text and has no standard format across registrars. RDAP is the recommended modern standard.
